The United Nations

All the roles at First Contact: 2035 are designed to ensure every player will have an awesome day. Regardless of what role you play, whether it’s the leader of a country, a scientist attempting to understand the alien’s biology or a member of the press reporting on the day’s chaos, we expect you’ll have a fantastic time.

You can find an outline of the roles in the United Nations team below.

Secretary General

The UN Secretary General will chair the Security Council meetings that occur each turn, ensuring that ambassadors from the Member States that attend have time to represent their views, manage the votes for resolutions and bring stakeholders to the table that may not always see eye-to-eye.

Do you enjoy working with others and using soft power to achieve your goals? Whilst the UN Secretary General doesn’t have direct power, the role does enable the player to rub shoulders with very powerful people. The UN Secretary General must never favour one stakeholder over another, but negotiating to get a resolution over the line could become critical in this polarised world. Do you enjoy bringing people together and running well managed meetings? This role is for you.

UN Officials

Three UN Officials will work for the United Nations Secretary General to move the UN’s goals forward. They will be the eyes and ears of the UN around the world, taking on various roles including speaking to Heads of State, deploying Food Aid and potentially in extreme situations becoming Special Investigators to find out what’s really happening in the latest country to go off the rails.

As a UN Official your remit will be wide and include providing updates to the UN Security Council at the start of each turn. You could be deployed to stop a crisis spiralling out of control or to lobby Heads of State for additional resources. Players will need to be confident to take on pretty much anything the game will throw at them. Are you up to the challenge?
